Newsletter 24th September 2020

Hi BPS members

Meeting Report

Martin welcomed members to our first monthly competition of the year and also extended a welcome to Peter Flecken who is taking up our new member offer. Peter has been a member of our FB group for a couple of weeks but due to work commitments is unable to attend every meeting.

Our judge John Tilsley gave us a full and accurate critique of our entries.

The results are:

Prints Open - we saw a closely fought battle amongst the entries that were held back but finally Jane Billing’s entry “Rain Storm” took first place beating my entry, “Red Footed Falcon”, which also received a maximum of 20 points. Third place was awarded Tom Meacham with his excellent “Brain Food” creative self-portrait. Fourth place went to Ian Barrow with his Asian street scene, “Fully Loaded”. In Fifth place was Martin Barber with his “Serine Sunset” taken on the beach at Burnham on Sea. I would like to give a special mention for Jane on achieving what I believe to be her first monthly competition win having been knocking on the door for some time.

Digital Images - Something Old - once again there was a closely run battle for the top spot resulting in Andy White coming top with his excellent “Trooper 101st Airborne”, a creative take on the subject. Second place went to Peter Owen with his “Flip wing Spitfire” image, a great shot showing the finest detail. Third place was awarded to Keith Perry’s beautifully lit image showing the ruin of “Byland Abbey”. Martyn Edward’s entry of “Old Money” was a nicely presented group of old coinage and in fifth was Ian Barrow’s image “Time Piece” a beautifully lit image giving lets of impact. All in all both competitions had an excellent top five entries along with quite a few members receiving highly commended awards.

WCPF Kingswood Salver Competition Group Report

Following a very successful shoot last weekend we meet again this Saturday to hopefully complete our panel entry. Many thanks to all the members who have contributed so far. We have models booked, Tom, Holly and Jim, and they have all acquired props and costumes so it should be fun! I have produced a time table (which all members taking part have received) starting at 8.30 to set up and hopefully will finish by 12.30. Members who are attending will need to make a declaration via the government website link below.
