Newsletter 6th July 2020

Hi BPS members

As we continue to emerge from lockdown and the severe restrictions imposed over the last 3 1/2 months, I hope that you are all keeping well and that those of you who were confined to your homes are able to get out and about again. I am hoping that we may be able to arrange an evening field trip somewhere local, providing the easing of lockdown measures doesn’t produce a large increase in numbers of covid infections. What do you think? Ideas, please! Tarr Steps, late summer/Autumn is already on the list.

A few of your committee members have met today via zoom and we are considering running a few extra competitions via our FB page which may be open to non-members. This is being put together in the hope that we might attract a few new members for our coming winter season, watch this space for updates.

I would like to welcome Steve Knowles who is planning to join us when we start our new winter season. Steve is already a member of our FB group and receives our newsletters etc.

London Salon on July 14th

The next Zoom meeting features the London Salon on July 14th starting at 7.30. As usual, you can join the meeting for a chat from 7pm. The London Salon is a presentation of top images from entrants across the world and, while some are a bit whacky (well, normally most are whacky), they can inspire us to think of photography from a different viewpoint. For those yet to join our meetings, please give it a go as Martin, in particular, is putting in a huge amount of effort into keeping us entertained and challenged in what could possibly become the normal way of making contact in the future.

Reminder!! Second Chance Competition

Our Zoom meeting is on Tuesday, July 28th starting at 7.30 and features an online second chance, why not join in if you haven’t done so in the past. Martin starts inviting members to join in for a chat from 7pm. The rules came under discussion on our FB group age and from there Martin and Ken have already confirmed the rules, however, I have repeated them for your reference, below!

1 Members should nominate up to three images for each the ‘Digital Second Chance Competition’ and ‘Print Second Chance Competition’.

2 Eligible images are those already entered into club monthly competitions, but not awarded a top-five position or used in the recent Winners Competition.

3 Your nominated images should be identified to Ken at khocking@btinternet.com by Tuesday 14th July using the following information only: Title of image, Was it entered as a Print or Digital, The month of the competition entered.

4 We will compile the competitions using the original images without modification as previously used that are already formatted for Dicentra and held by Ken. The Second Chance is an opportunity to revisit images and get fresh feedback from a second Judge. So review your memory stick and let Ken know the images you would like a second opinion on.

All zoom meetings can be accessed by clicking this link ID 215 409 4488, Martin has kindly donated his personal zoom account which saves us as a club a monthly subscription.

I recommend that you download the free Zoom app https://zoom.us/download
