Meeting Report February 25th

Hi BPS members

Our monthly competition certainly contained a wide and varied entry. The prints were Mono which allowed all subjects to be considered and the digital competition was Open which speaks for itself. Some high quality and innovative entries were seen in both competitions and our replacement judge, Mac Chivers, was quick to acknowledge this, sadly none really hit the top scores but were much appreciated by members present. Mac gave, what I think was, the most thorough review of every entry that I can recall which caused our meeting to run late. His marking was quite hard and with a points score spreading from 10 to 20 and an average of approximately 15. However, many that scored 15 and below still got good reviews. After great deliberation, he held back 11 prints and 12 digital entries to choose the top placements from.

Prints ‘Mono’:

  • 1st place Andy White
  • 2nd Tom Meacham
  • 3rd Martin Barber
  • 4th Brian Sweeting
  • 5th Jim Goddard

All of the top five receiving 20 points. Highly commended and commended awards went to Keith Perry, Jim Goddard, Ken Hocking and Martyn Edwards.

Digital ‘Open’:

  • 1st place Leigh Ann
  • 2nd Ian Barrow
  • 3rd Andy White
  • 4th Martin Barber
  • 5th Keith Perry and Ian Barrow.

The top four received 20 points and Highly Commended Jane Billing, Commended Lis Sparrow, Ken Hocking, Andy White and Brian Sweeting. Congratulations to Lis Sparrow and Martyn Edwards for getting up in the top scores. Next month is the last monthly competition of the season and the top five in both print and digital are all very close, meaning a low score by one or more would completely overturn the top places, watch this space!! All images will be posted on our FB Group and Public Page over the next few days.

Future Meeting info

Next week we have our annual battle against Taunton. It should be a hard-fought competition and, if you go by the records, it’s our turn to win…however, I hear on the grapevine that the Taunton club has reformed and have got back some of their experienced members which should make their entry stronger than we have seen for a few years. Believe me, they take interclub competitions very seriously and I expect a good turnout from their members, so please do your best to come along!
