It was great to see so many of our potential new members come back this week. At this point, I would like to correct a mistake I made last week, sorry I got your name wrong Lis Sparrow. We have another new lady, Christina, who is also taking a look at what we can offer her. I stress to potential new members that we need to know what you need - be it help with camera settings, photo editing, etc. Please let me know, if I can’t help myself, I will know someone who can. We are able to organise a mentor system to help where necessary. Please let me or Martin know if you think you could benefit from this.
Andy started our evening off with an extensive demonstration of his style of photography. This was a fine example of the standards that some of our members have achieved. Thank you, Andy, for a super presentation which went down well with all members.
Then Ken Hocking took over with a presentation using Pro Show Audio Visual software. Thanks Ken for another super AV, however, I’m not too sure I should thank you after you had a go at me.J
I then showed some of the project work that we, as a club, have provided to West Somerset Railway to support their efforts to increase their volunteer numbers. This work is on-going, see details below under Future Events. There is an opportunity this weekend to join in. If you do decide to come, please share some of your best and most interesting shots.
Martin drew the meeting to a close with details of current projects and asked members if they wanted to put an entry into this year’s Kingswood Salver competition. We need you the membership to give us ideas for a theme and forward images for consideration once one has been agreed upon should we decide to go ahead. Can all those who go to the 1940s’ weekend bear this entry in mind. Maybe we can come up with a WSR related entry (see event details below), we will need images from at least 5 members.
Next week we have our first professional live lecture of the year which will be presented by Victoria Hillman. Victoria is an accomplished photographer and has recently had a book published. This is an open meeting when we invite members from other local clubs and friends, family and work colleagues. Victoria’s presentation is entitled ‘Forgotten Little Creatures’. Please invite members of your family, workmates and friends who will be charged £5. Members of other local camera clubs will be charged just £4 (a reciprocal arrangement).
Kingswood Salver: we need volunteers to put together our annual panel of five prints for this competition. They will need to decide on the subject and prepare and print the images chosen. So please put your thinking caps on and bring us some good ideas to discuss next week. The small group that put this together last year did a great job and this can be the best way to involve many members.
Please let me know if you wish to come on the members’ trip that I am organising (this includes potential new members) to the West Somerset Railway at Watchet to photograph the “1940’s Weekend Gala”. Some of us are going to Watchet by train from Bishops Lydeard leaving there on the 10.15 train which gets into Watchet at 11am. Others are preferring to go direct to Watchet. There will be plenty of opportunities to photograph at the WSR Station, the marina and in the streets and pubs. There should be some great subjects for street photography. I plan that we are at the station around the lunch period because there are two steam trains passing through between 12 and 1 pm. I will contact Catherine at WSR, (she is our Project Coordinator) to see if we can get special permission to photograph some of the reenactors at Watchet Station.
