Hi BPS members
Monthly competition report, some entries received quite harsh but fair and helpful critique from our guest judge, Laura Pierce. The subjects were: Prints - Somewhere in Somerset and Digital - Open. It was pleasing to see so many different entries from members who obviously strived to find something unusual going on in Somerset to enter. It was also encouraging to see a new face winning the digital competition. Well done Tom Meacham, what a great result for you and one which I hope will inspire you to continue competing and other less experienced members to have a go. This is my ninth season in the club and can tell you, that in my opinion, we are at our peak in terms of quality for our monthly competition entries. The results were as follows:- Prints: 1st Skyline Pavilion through the sea mist, Minehead – Andy White; 2nd The Abandoned Bridge – Marcia Randle; 3rd - Birbeck Pier – Peter Owen; 4th Iced Canal - Leigh Ann Aswegen; 5th Bridgwater Carnival a break in proceedings – Peter Owen; Digital: 1st Our Fluid Union – Tom Meacham; 2nd Peaceful – Sharon Lewis; 3rd Proud Puffin – Martin Barber; 4th Treat – Matt Difford; 5th The Caretaker’s Keys – Marcia Randle.
Sadly I received news that Joe Aucott has decided to leave the club. He asked me to forward his best wishes to all members. I’m sure we all wish Joe well for the future.
Next meeting March 5th (we have an enforced change)
We welcome Lea Tippett who is showing us his photography from the last 15 years which includes local and Cornish landscapes. Also as a Sigma ambassador, he will give us an insight into Sigma equipment capabilities!
Ken needs your entries for March monthly competition next week. The subjects are: Prints - Action and Digital - Weather. Our competition has been moved forward in March to allow us to view the WCPF travelling exhibition.
If you need help entering PM me or give me a call on 455621.
DI entries to be submitted online via the exhibition web site. Closing date for online entries is March 4th. Prints should be handed to Andy White at or before or at our meeting on March 5th. (remember you have to enter prints online in the same way as the DI competition}

Please send your entries to Matt via email@example.com who will be uploading them to our website. More information to follow on FB group. A typical image should be something of general interest and one which will cause each member to think about how they would improve the image from a judge’s point of view. Matt informs me that, to date, he has not received any entries.
There is an opportunity to get free tickets, however, I would advise you, as a past member of the club, to be very careful of where you take photos. Do not flash your cameras around the paddock because there are professionals who pay to get these shots. PLEASE BE DISCRETE!! or I fear you will be stopped, or thrown out. I have photographed racing there in the past but I stay away from the main paddock and office buildings which is the official line on this matter.
With the weather being reasonably settled at the moment I’m thinking of arranging a day out on the Quantocks, Exmoor or the Somerset coast. See FB events for details and to add your name (maybe a mid-week trip, weather dependent)
