Hi BPS members
Martin opened the first meeting of the year by wishing members old and new a happy and healthy new year. He then welcomed four new members, Ian Barrow, Mike Cook, Martyn Edwards and Andy Bale. It was great to see a few new faces and, from my experiences so far, I think they will fit in well. The evening started with the annual small print competition. At first it seemed that only a few members had brought entries, however, Jim soon put that right with a fantastic entry which included a few really unusual print mounts. Two were mounted on tubes rather than straight card. All members were requested to select their top five and the three top places were awarded to Brian Sweeting, Sharon Lewis and Jane Billings.
Following the break, Martin presented our new competition ‘What did you make of it’ projecting all the entries whilst carrying out a detailed critique on each entry. Once again a good entry made his decisions very difficult but in the end he awarded three prizes, best edit, most unusual and funniest. It was great to see new member Ian Borrow win the Best Edit with his portrayal of an image first taken by Keith Perry. Well done Ian, what a great start!!. The Funniest Entry was awarded to Peter Owen’s scene in Bridgwater’s Town center displaying Admiral Blake holding up a clothes line between himself and St Mary’s Church. Jim Goddard took the Best Unusual award with his close up seagull entitled ‘Photobomb’. Thanks everyone for having a go at something a little bit different.
Four Men in a Boat: Martin Barber, Peter Owen, Graham Treharne and yours truly present what we hope will be a fun evening. We will be giving a complete run down on, and details of how to photograph, the wild puffins found on the beautiful island of Skomer. Members are welcome to ask questions on all aspects of the trip from organisation, which was superbly arranged by Graham, to equipment used and camera settings.
Advanced warning; February Monthly Competition [Prints - Somewhere in Somerset] [DI - Open] Judge - Laura Pierce, maximum entry per member 3 prints and 3 digital, if you require any further information please email or PM me.
It’s hardly the weather to plan far ahead at the moment but I’ll be keeping an eye open for any suitable events.
