Weekly Newsletter 15th November

Hi BPS members

This week we welcomed George Reekie who gave us a broad view of his years in photography. It all started when he was a young lad and his mother won a Box Brownie camera at Bingo and gave it to him. His presentation was entitled ‘Beating the Judges’ but I didn’t really get much inside information on that subject. However, to be fair, he did give us some good tips on what it takes to produce a winning entry. George showed us a series of truly great images which had been taken during his extensive trips all over the world.

Don’t forget my message from last week regarding submitting more digital images to Ken Hocking so that they can be taken into consideration for our 2019 WCPF inter-club digital competition (DPIC). Bring them on a memory stick or send them to Ken by email. We would like to improve on last year’s success and gain a top 10 position in this West Country club competition.

Please remember to pay Peter your balance for the Christmas meal to avoid the need for money to be collected on the night.

Next Meeting November 20th

Martin will be giving a presentation entitled ‘Filters what can they do? Do we need them?’ with image examples. Peter will demonstrate that many effects that can be achieved using filters can also be accomplished using Photoshop. I’m looking forward to this mainly because I invested in a few Lee filters a while ago and have not made much use of them yet. I’ll be bringing my Lee collection of filters and holders for members to see.

Future Club Events

Next Saturday, November 17th our Kingswood Salver entry is being judged. Martin and a couple of members are attending to watch the judging and hopefully gain useful knowledge to help in future competitions, I think there maybe a spare seat in Martin’s car if anyone wants to go .

Ragged Victorians/SS Great Britain trip to be arranged on December 8/9th, (weather dependant), decision to be made nearer the time, check FB events soon.

Keith is still offering members mount boards, if you would like to buy some let him know at our next meeting please.

Watch out for invites via our FB page to quite a few up-coming events.

Happy Snapping

Brian
