Weekly Newsletter 25th October

Hi BPS members

Well, what a great night and possibly our best turnout of the season to date. Our invited judge Jane Kearney, despite being new to the WCPF circuit of judges, carried out an in depth appraisal of the 90 plus entries. What a fantastic selection and high standard of photography she had to judge. Congratulations to all who entered and to several of our new recruits who did very well. We all learned a great deal from Jane’s detailed breakdown and critique of each entry. She did so well that Martin immediately asked her to return next year to give us one of her lectures, which I for one won’t be missing! I certainly had a night to remember because I manged to pick up wins in both digital entries and prints. I felt a little lucky, particularly in the print section, where there so many great entriesany of the top ten under another judge could have taken the top award.

Prints – Reflections: 1st Brian Sweeting, Avocet; 2nd Peter Owen, Portal; 3rd Andy White, Mirror, Mirror; 4th Marcia Randel, Spilt; 5th Martin Barber, 9-11 Loss Reflection.

Digital - Open: Brian Sweeting, Grey Heron Catches Eel; 2nd Sharon Lewis, Lauren; 3rd Andy White; Street Performance; 4th Brian Sweeting; Hunt at Dusk. 5th Marcia Randel, Sea of Waste.

Don’t forget to let Peter know if you wish to come along to the Christmas Meal at the Harvest Moon, North Newton, £14 for 2 courses £15 if you want a coffee to finish. £5 deposit secures your booking.

Those who joined in our photographic trips last weekend enjoyed two great days out, all learning from each other and getting some amazing landscape and action shots. Thanks to those who came, what a pity so few took this opportunity to learn more about this great and very challenging hobby. These events are of value to all members as well as being aimed at our newer, less experienced members. I plan to organise more such events, so watch this space and if they are organised at short notice, you need to look out for an invite via our FB group. There are loads of images from this weekend on our FB page, take a look if you haven’t already done so.

Next Meeting October 30th
