Weekly Newsletter 12th April

Hi BPS members,

April 10th Meeting Report:

There were 8 entries in our annual AV competition, all top quality video shows. Richard played through each entry and members were allocated two votes each to use on what they considered the best two AVs. Results: Marcia took first place with her entry covering many shots of Bridgwater accompanied by a perfectly apt music track. Ken Hocking once again figured in the top entries entering two really technically excellent AVs. His 2nd placed entry depicted a day at the Fair, Dorset Steam Fair in fact, including top photos and another great sound track. Joint third place was shared by Jane, Leigh Ann and yours truly. Members watched the highest 5 entries again and discussed how they were put together.

Seven members enjoyed a great day out on Saturday visiting the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the M-Shed Bristol, followed by lunch at Za Za’s leaving a short period to take photos around Bristol harbour. The trouble started when we returned by boat to the Station only to find that all trains planned to stop in Bridgwater had been cancelled due to signal failure. After about an hour GWR laid on a train starting from Temple Meads stopping at all stations to Taunton…Phew!

On April 21st we are holding a judges seminar on behalf of the WCPF at our HQ. We decided that it would raise the profile of our club to host this annual event and, as we are quite central in the Western counties region, our offer was appreciated by the WCPF organiser John Tilsley. Many of you will know John as a regular judge of our monthly competitions. Volunteers are required at 9.00am and again at lunchtime that day to make tea/coffee for those on the course. Volunteers so far are Aneka, Leigh Ann, Marcia, Martin, Peter and myself. Those members present are invited to listen in on the proceedings, who knows we may learn something.

Message from Matt Difford

“I am still accepting entries for the Folio competition” closing date this Friday 13th April. Send your entry to Matt via mattdifford@gmail.com”

Message from Ken Hocking

Ken has experienced a few problems with the judge appointed for our annual best print and digital entries competition. She is only prepared to take an approximate total of 70 prints and DIs which means that he will have to remove a few of the lowest scoring entries, very sorry!

Next week

Richard Winn will give us further insight into using Adobe Lightroom. If time permits we will give some help on how to produce Audio Video shows.

Future Photographic Opportunities

The Speedway season has just restarted and I would like to hear from any member who would like to attend, no date fixed yet.

If you have any suggestions for our summer programme of events please let me or Martin know.

Brian
