Weekly Newsletter 1st December

Hi BPS members.

We are half way through our monthly competition season for 2017/18 and to date we have experienced a higher level of entries than usual. This is due in part to a few more members joining the club and also to some of the longer serving members being challenged by the new subjects. The increased in entries has led to numbers allowed being reduced from 4 to 3 which has resulted in a reduction in club expenses which is another bonus. On the subject of new members, Marcia, in particular, is challenging the more experienced members by getting prints and digital entries in the top few every month. Well dome Marcia, you have opened our eyes and made us realise what can be achieved with a mobile phone camera.

Results for Prints

Judge, Keith Spicer, awarded 20 points to five prints and putting them in order was a bit of a lottery. However, his final decision put our new Chairman Peter Owen’s print of the new Severn bridge in first place. This great entry showed excellent detail and top quality printing, Also receiving 20 points were Ken Hocking (two entries) Roger Tibbles and another from Peter Owen.

Results for Digital Images

Peter took the 1st place with a simple yet very accurate portrayal of shadows in his entry “Blue Note”. Well done Peter for doing the double. Two of our ladies also gained 20 points - Aneka with two entries and Marcia with her Spiderman entry. See the website for latest competition tables.

Next week

December 5th: We have our annual competition against Mid-Somerset and Yeovil which takes place at the Pipers Inn, Ashcott, an excellent venue and only 20 minutes’ drive from Bridgwater. Members are asked to do their best to come along to support the club. It is sure to be a good evening socially. If you wish to come please let me know asap so that we can hopefully arrange car sharing to prevent members needing to hang around waiting to see whether other members will turn up. We plan to leave Bridgwater at 7pm. Can I ask those who are prepared to drive to let me know so that I can make arrangements for those without transport.
