Weekly Newsletter 25th October

Hi BPS members.

What a night we had! We certainly put John under a lot of pressure as he had 50+ prints and almost as many DIs to critique, but critique he did and his feedback was appreciated. I don’t think anyone could argue with his comments, maybe some felt that the DI competition ‘Postcard from Home’ was not illustrated as expected or hoped for. I’m afraid this will always happen because we all have our own ideas and our way of interpreting any subject.

The print winner was quite unanimous. Peter’s aeroplane shot taken on a club trip to Fairford air display was a brilliant entry which I hope Peter will enter in this year’s WCPF Members’ Competition early in the new year. Six members Ken, Keith, Darren, Jim, Richard and Graham shared second place gaining 19 points each.

In the D I competition, Richard took top spot with an image of Wembdon, Bridgwater as the scene for his portrayal of ‘Postcard from Home. Sharing second place were Aneka and Graham both scoring 19 points. It was good to see several of our new members getting great marks and up amongst the best entries.

Next Week’s Meeting:

We start our evening with a talk by Peter Owen The Prime Imperative or Zoom with your Feet. Together we will investigate the history of the Zoom lens. Debate the advantages of Prime versus Zoom and discuss the virtues of some speciality lenses and gadgets. After our tea break we will learn some more via a Q&A session. Please prepare your questions and remember ‘if in doubt ask’. If time permits we will finish with a discussion on the benefits of shooting in RAW.

Many thanks to those who helped make the tea/coffee and clear up last week. I would like to put together a rota of members to carry out this weekly task. Please let me know at next week’s meeting dates that suit you best

Reminder; On November 7th we have our annual Panel Competition where you can enter panels of three or five separate related prints and three or five digital images contained within a 1400px x 1050 image. You can enter up to three items in each section on the night.
