Martin ran through upcoming events and reminded members that we have our AGM in a couple of weeks’ time. We have no proposals from members wishing to make changes or alterations to the way we operate as a club. In fact Jim Goddard pointed out that he felt that we had had an excellent season despite all the restrictions imposed due to carrying out meetings via Zoom.
Creative: What looked like being, at one point, a very poorly supported evening in terms of entries, finished up with 14 members enjoying discussing each entry and most probably picked up a few very useful tips. Thanks to Ian Barrow, Keith Perry and Jim Goddard for your contribution. After looking at the creative images, a general discussion took place and views were expressed regarding the use of them in our monthly competitions. I understand that our secretary has received two duly seconded proposals on this matter for formal discussion at our AGM.
Time Lapse: Ian presented us with a couple of star trail TL while out on a milky way shoot, both were quite short but a very effective way of demonstrating the skill of capturing interesting night skies. Peter Owen popped up with a lengthy TL view of the boat yard at the mouth of the River Brue, things didn’t go to well for Peter mostly due to him getting to his destination at 4am in total darkness (My god!, the things we do for photography) This time lapse included the coming of dawn, sadly no real movement was seen in his, high tide and a cloudless sky just the same it was an excellent demonstration of this style of photography.
For me, Martyn Edward’s presentation of the ‘Replacement of St Mary’s bells’ which brought back many memories of this extensive club project. His presentation was a rather special time lapse including many different styles of time lapse, brilliant work Martyn,
I for one enjoyed it and I’m sure all members did too! Maybe we could see the finished project when he has all the images required to complete this excellent time lapse presentation.
Here's an excellent example of time lapse from Glyn Dewis - Dandelion Time Lapse.
Martin finished the evening giving details of a new connection he has made with Lee Filters for our club, among the benefits are free tutorials and 10% price reductions on their equipment,
LEE FILTER FREE ZOOM PRESENTATION: Details are available on our members closed FB group.

To qualify for the annual winners competition members needed to have achieved a top five position in one or more of our monthly print or digital image competitions. Pedro, as expected, gave a full and very thoughtful critique on every image put before him. I felt that he was very fair in his comments and no-one could argue with any of his decisions. He paid particular attention to the title being accurately portrayed in each entry and to the technical input down to the finest detail. I think he got the overall results spot on! This competition was not the easiest to judge because all the qualifying images had already received high praise from our judges throughout the season.
Print competition:
First place was awarded to Andy White with his ‘Shy Flamingo’ - this image has done very well for Andy having gained acceptance in the WCPF Members Exhibition.
In second place was Martin Barber’s entry ‘Serene Sunset’. This was a very impressive image of the famous Burnham lighthouse at sunset.
Third place was awarded to Andy who is having another fantastic year in club competitions, this time with his mono portrait image of ‘Evie’.
In fourth place was Brian Sweeting’s entry ‘Dawn Rut’. Pedro liked the mono conversion and said he loved the composition and would love to see it as a printed entry.
Fifth place was Ian Barrow with one of his many qualifying images. 'Focussed on Winning' was an equestrian shot showing a horse rearing up ready to take a water jump.
Digital competition:
Andy completed another clean sweep of club competitions with another first placed entry which was an excellent image ‘Water’s Edge’. This creative entry in my opinion was the image of the night and of our competition season, well done Andy!
Second place went to Peter Owen with his entry ‘Smoking’. This image featured a young lady standing in a doorway relaxing with a cigarette.
In third place was Keith Perry’s entry ‘Chinese Dragon’. Pedro was very impressed with the way Keith had handled the lighting of such a large dragon model.
Fourth place was awarded to Andy who completed a very successful night with his portrait of the very well-known model ‘Holly’.
Fifth place went to Brian Sweeting with his seasonal shot of ‘Great Crested Grebes in Springtime’. This showed a pair of breeding grebes passing the nest material from one to the other which is part of their courtship display.
The top five in the print and digital images can be viewed on our Gallery.

Martin opened the meeting by welcoming members and guests then introduced Peter Colley who will be presenting his comprehensive lecture ‘Photographing the Night Sky’.
Peter's lecture included loads of interesting information about our solar system and presented us with many of his super shots. The lecture included information and full details of the equipment he used together with his recommended settings. Many of his images are single images stacked and some are created by using time lapse photography then stacked. We are hoping to get backup information from Pete supporting his lecture which for many of us was far too much information to digest in one session. Watch out for information, we hope to get this from Peter which members can request as soon as it’s available, more information to follow.
