Weekly Newsletter 4th October

Hi BPS members

Members in attendance were treated to some inside information from John Tilsley. John is one of region’s top judges and photographers which is why his comments were more meaningful than some judges who seldom enter competitions. I hope you took in what he looks for in a winning entry because he will be back to judge our monthly competition in a few weeks’ time. To summarise, apart from the obvious, the shot needs to be in full focus with no over-exposed areas. He likes the subject to illustrate the title with little or no distracting elements. It should be well composed and cropped so that only relevant detail is shown in the image or print.

Entries for October’s monthly competition are due to be handed in on Tuesday 10th, our next meeting! Prints: Open (any subject of your choice); Digital Images: ‘Postcard from Home’.

Next Week’s Meeting - We have our very own Keith and Ken with a presentation on their latest photography trip north of the border, should be fun!!. Your chance to ask two very experienced and successful photographers how they get those special shots.

Events of Photographic Interest

October 14th/15th National Ploughing competition at Bishops Lydeard. See link: http://www.ploughmen.co.uk/events/british-national-ploughing-championships-copy weather permitting, this will be a great event to get those monthly competition entries.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for days out with our cameras, please let us know and I will try to coordinate sharing transport etc.

Reminder: As we prepare the next seasons programme, we do require your feedback on competition subjects and any evening lectures or activities you would like to see included.

I have noticed that some of our potential new members who came to our first couple of meetings or so no longer come. Please let me know if you wish to continue receiving the newsletter and be a member of our closed FB group.

Best wishes

Brian
