Weekly Newsletter 20th September

Hi BPS Members,

Peter kicked things off with a brief introduction to the competitions we are able to enter within the WCPF group this year. It was decided that we give the DPIC a go with possible others once we have checked out the entry rules etc. A small selection committee will be formed to decide on the entries. Aneka has taken on the task of compiling a list of suggested competition entry subjects for our in-house competitions next year. To get things going she suggested that each member be allowed to make three suggestions. Please send your suggestions to her asap.

After a cuppa we examined the Smartphone entries. Sadly not many members entered but there were still around 20 images which were projected to the members who were able to give their opinions before finally voting on the 3 they liked best. Joint first were Richard Winn and Martin Barber, followed closely by two of our newcomers Marcia Randle and Terence Peppin. A report, with the winning images can be seen here and also I will upload to our FB group.

We then went on to look at all the possible entries we can consider for the next DPIC competition. Wow! Approximately 500 to chose from!

Next week’s Meeting: Monthly Competition. Prints - Catch The Light. Digital Images - Wide Angle. Judge - Laura Pearce. Due to holiday commitments Laura will be judging on the evening. Hold on to your hats and don’t take any comments to heart as its only her opinion after all, the secret to learning what a judge is looking for is to listen closely to their critique. Next month’s competition subjects are: Prints: Open ( any subject of your choice); Digital Images: ‘Postcard from Home’ Three entries per member due to having to pull out some this month because of a very high number entered, which your committee were delighted to receive, Ken Hocking to confirm.

Future photo opportunities:

Bridgwater Fair Wednesday 27th until 30th. This event will offer good opportunities to get a special shot, think about upcoming club competitions because this event could be very relevant. October 14th/15th National Ploughing competition at Bishops Lydeard. See here
